as active members of the European Consortium for the Early Treatment of Diabetic

Retinopathy (EUROCONDOR, FP7-278040-2. FP7-HEALTH-2011: 2012-2015 Pro-

gramme 3) and the “Innovative strategies to generate human hepatocytes” “In-
novaLIV” consortium (FP7: 2011-2014, Programme 3). Veronica Moreno Viedma

successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled “Role of IRS2 in Obesity and Adipo-
genesis” (May, 2013) and Dr Luke Noon performed a successful 1 year DIAbetes

Transnational Research Advancement for INvestigators (DIATRAIN) Fellowship in

the laboratory of Professor Scott Friedman at The Icahn School of Medicine at
Mount Sinai (New York, USA).
