In 2017 we celebrated the CIBER’s tenth anniversa- ry and there could be no better way to do this than by having three new areas join us: Cardiovascular Diseases (CIBERCV), Cancer (CIBERONC) and Frailty and Healthy Ageing (CIBERFES) These areas com- prise a total number of 110 excellence research groups, belonging to universities, hospitals or re- search institutes
Over these ten years the CIBER has gradually grown to the point of becoming one of the largest centres of biomedical research at the present time It now has a sta of 908 contracted personnel and around 6000 attached researchers, members of over 400 research groups, all physically at a distance from each other and associated with 104 institutions in the consortium Thanks to its excellent develop- ment, the CIBER received the “Recognition of the Technology and Health Foundation 2017”
I would like to take advantage of this opportunity to congratulate the three new managers for their good work this rst year and for the proper integration of the new groups in the consortium I would also like to extend my congratulations to all the researchers forming part of the CIBER for the scienti c results obtained in the 2017 period: a total number of 6237 publications, 3629 of which are in the rst quartile and 1824 in the rst decile
As regards transfer, 17 new patent applications were submitted in this period, 1 utility model, 1 trade mark and 3 software registrations, and 6 li- cence contracts were signed
The total income –stemming from the sums trans- ferred by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, subsidies for projects, provision of services and others– ex- ceeded 42 million euros (42,055,713 51€) 88 of the 118 competitive projects under way in 2017 result- ing from aid were Spanish, 25 European and 5 from the U S A
Since internationalisation is one of our main objec- tives, speci c action was taken intended to boost the participation of our groups in international pro- jects, for both training - as 3 courses were given on relevant aspects in the presentation of interna- tional proposals- and from the international plat- form, which resulted in in a considerable increase in the number of consultations by researchers, over 100 speci c enquiries, 52 requests for support for presentation, 10 requests for seeking partners and 10 requests for appraisals of research proposals, whose results will be seen in the coming years The dissemination of the results of CIBER research to society in 2017 resulted in sending 101 press re- leases to the media 785 news items and 514 agen- da events were published on our websites and 21 CIBER newsletters were sent to the over 5000 sub- scribers It should be stressed that CIBER’s pres- ence on social networks such as Twitter continues to extend, today exceeding 24,000 followers
The positive balance of all of this means that we can conclude 2017 with the satisfaction of work well done at the CIBER through everyone’s e orts Many thanks to all of you who form part of these excellent results!
